The ‘Wizards of Waverly Place‘ sequel series starring Selena Gomez and David Henrie has received a series order from Disney Channel. The filming will begin next month in Los Angeles.
In January 2024, it was confirmed that Gomez and Henrie are reuniting to executive produce a ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ sequel series for Disney Channel. Gomez will guest star as her character Alex Russo in the pilot, while Henrie will reprise his role as Justin Russo as a series regular.
According to the new synopsis, “Wizards” will follow Justin Russo, who, as an adult, has chosen to lead a normal, mortal life with his family, Giada, Roman, and Milo. When Justin’s sister Alex brings Billie to his home seeking help, Justin realizes he must dust off his magical skills to mentor the wizard-in-training while also juggling his everyday responsibilities and safeguarding the future of the Wizard World.
Janice LeAnn Brown, from Disney’s “Just Roll with It,” is the series lead playing Billie, the powerful young wizard mentored by Justin. Alkaio Thiele, known for “Call Me Kat,” portrays Roman Russo, Justin’s oldest son, while Mimi Gianopulos, recognized for “American Princess,” takes on the role of Giada, Justin Russo’s wife.
Gary Marsh, the Disney Channels creative head behind ‘Wizards of Waverly Place,’ is an executive producer. He also discovered Gomez during an open casting call in Dallas and brought her to the network.
In a statement, Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, said, “‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ captivated hearts with its spellbinding adventures and big laughs, creating unforgettable memories for kids and families everywhere.” Davis added, “We can’t wait to step back into the magical world of ‘Wizards,’ inviting both longtime fans and a new generation to experience the enchantment alongside Selena, David, and our incredible cast and crew.”
‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ is set to release on Disney+ and Disney Channel later this year.
