'Daddio' Starring Dakota Johnson is R-Rated for Language

Christy Hall’s ‘Daddio,’ starring Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn, got SAG-AFTRA’s approval. The cast will promote it at this year’s Toronto Film Festival. It’s in TIFF’s Special Presentation. The film lacks a major studio, but it got SAG-AFTRA clearance for actor promotion. The 2023 Toronto International Film Festival is scheduled to take place from September 7 to September 17.

'Daddio' Starring Dakota Johnson is R-Rated for Language

In a statement (Via The Wrap), SAG-AFTRA says that supporting interim agreement-approved productions “shows strong solidarity with striking members and support for the union.”

“We urge our members to audition for projects approved under the Interim Agreement. If they appear in an approved production, they should be comfortable celebrating and fully promoting it,” the guild’s national executive director and chief negotiator, Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, said. “SAG-AFTRA believes these agreements are an important opportunity to improve the union’s bargaining position while giving room for journeyman actors and crew to work during the strike.”

‘Daddio’ is rated R for language throughout, sexual material, and brief graphic nudity. The film also stars Daisy Ridley and Marcos A. Gonzalez.

‘Daddio’ follows a young woman (Johnson), who, after landing at JFK airport in New York City, jumps into the backseat of a yellow taxi. The cabbie, Clark, throws the vehicle into drive, and the two head out into the night, striking up the most unexpected conversation. What begins as amusing chitchat quickly takes a turn towards mysterious and playful, then grows into viscerally honest revelations about relationships, sex and power dynamics, loss, and vulnerability. This contained yet kinetic drama explores the complexities of human connection and proves that a chance encounter with a total stranger can change a person’s life.

Johnson, along with Ro Donnelly, is producing the film through their company, TeaTime Pictures, while Emma Tillinger Koskoff is also attached as a producer. Hall will also produce the movie.
