Max delayed the release of ‘The Penguin,’ a spin-off series from ‘The Batman,’ to fall 2024 due to a dispute over fair actor compensation. The crime and drama show, originally slated for a summer 2024 premiere, was rescheduled because of ongoing strikes.

Upcoming HBO/MAX Release Schedule: What to Expect

HBO/MAX has some exciting releases lined up:

  • In January 2024, there’s True Detective Season 4 and Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 12.
  • Spring brings us The Regime with Kate Winslet, The Sympathizer, docuseries Jerrod and The Jinx – Part Two, Tokyo Vice Season 2, Pretty Little Liars Summer School, Hacks Season 3, and Sex Lives of College Girls Season 3.
  • Summer will have House of the Dragon Season 2, My Brilliant Friend Season 4 (the final chapter), and Industry Season 3.
  • In the Fall, expect The Franchise and The Penguin (delayed from Spring due to strikes), along with Dune: Prophecy, finishing production in Europe.
  • Moving into 2025, there’s White Lotus Season 3, The Last of Us Season 2, and the new series Welcome to Derry.

‘The Penguin’ series revolves around the rise to power of Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot/Penguin (played by Colin Farrell) in Gotham City’s criminal underworld. Produced by 6th & Idaho, DC Studios, and Dylan Clark Productions in collaboration with Warner Bros. Television Studios, the series is led by showrunner Lauren LeFranc. (See set images).
