Blumhouse‘s ‘The Black Phone 2‘ begins filming on June 3, 2024, in Los Angeles, CA, United States, as confirmed by Production List.
The upcoming film, ‘The Black Phone 2,’ serves as a sequel to the 2022 horror hit ‘The Black Phone,’ directed by Scott Derrickson and produced by Blumhouse. The original film, grossing over $160 million worldwide, sets the stage for the sequel, scheduled for a wide release in the summer of 2025.
Based on a short story by Joe Hill, ‘The Black Phone’ followed Finney, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy who was abducted by a sadistic killer played by Ethan Hawke. Trapped in a soundproof basement, a disconnected phone on the wall starts ringing, allowing Finney, portrayed by Mason Thames, to hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. They are determined to prevent what happened to them from happening to Finney.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, producer Ryan Turek revealed that Derrickson is returning as the director for the sequel.
Turek said, “Yeah, Scott’s coming back.” Turek added, “I think it’s too early to talk about anything else regarding that, but yeah [Derrickson’s returning].”
The script is written by Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill. Produced by Jason Blum, Turek, Cargill, and Derrickson.
