Wes Ball Shares Vision for Nintendo Project ‘The Legend of Zelda’
In the new issue of Total Film (via Games Radar), Ball shares his vision for the upcoming Nintendo project.
Ball said, “I have this awesome idea.” Ball added, “I’ve been thinking about it for a long freakin’ time, about how cool a Zelda movie would be… I want to fulfill people’s greatest desires. I know it’s important to people that this [Zelda] franchise be serious, and I want it to be a serious movie. A real movie that can give people an escape.”
Ball continued, “I want to live in that world.” Ball added, “That’s the thing I want to try to create—it’s got to feel like something real. Something serious and cool, but fun and whimsical.”
The film is currently untitled, with its announcement made in November 2023. Ball is set to direct from a screenplay by Derek Connolly. Produced by series creator Shigeru Miyamoto and film producer Avi Arad, it will be distributed by Sony Pictures Entertainment.
The production companies involved in the project are Arad Productions, Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Nintendo. Often focusing on the tunic-clad Link in his battles against series villain Ganon (or other evildoers), the series has sold over 150 million copies. Its most recent entry, Tears of the Kingdom, was among the highest-selling games of 2023.
The release date for the ‘Legend of Zelda’ film is currently to be announced (TBA).
Ball’s new movie, ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,’ is set to be released on May 10, 2024.
