‘Extraction 3‘ is reportedly in the works at Netflix.
Joe Russo has confirmed that he’ll be returning to write the screenplay for ‘Extraction 3,’ starring Chris Hemsworth. Sam Hargrave, who directed the first and second films, will also return to direct the third movie.
Speaking to GamesRadar+, Russo said, “Yeah, we’re developing it at the moment, figuring out Chris’s schedule.” Russo added, “Sam Hargrave is back directing. It’s an interesting franchise because he’s a very emotionally wounded character, so there’s good storytelling there, I think, in respect to his backstory, and, you know, his relationship to violence is one that’s built around self-loathing and guilt. And so, it adds a lot of texture, I think, which allows us to tell more stories about him.”
‘Extraction’ is adapted from the graphic novel ‘Ciudad’ by Ande Parks, Joe Russo, Anthony Russo, Fernando León González, and Eric Skillman. The films follow Tyler Rake (Hemsworth), a former Australian SASR Operator turned black ops mercenary involved in rescue operations. The first film premiered in 2020, followed by the sequel, ‘Extraction 2,’ released in 2023.
Hargrave has already confirmed that there will be a third movie if ‘Extraction 2’ receives a positive response. With that becoming a reality, the script work for ‘Extraction 3’ is now in full swing.
Speaking to BroBible’s Post-Credit Podcast, Hargrave said that ‘Extraction 3’ will only happen if it is “well received” by fans. Hargrave said, “We’re kind of waiting to see how the second movie is received.” He added, “Fingers crossed, if people enjoy the second one, there already is — and this is without spoiling anything — but there is a story in development for a third movie in the works. What it is exactly, I can’t say right now, but I believe there is another adventure in the wind for Tyler Rake.”
‘Extraction’ 1 and 2 are now available on Netflix.
Filming for ‘Extraction 3’ is set to begin this fall.
