Rafe Judkins (‘The Wheel of Time,’ ‘Agents of Shield,’ ‘Uncharted’) and Michael Lesslie (‘The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes,’ ‘Assassin’s Creed’) are reportedly the finalists to write the script for Marvel’s upcoming live-action ‘X-Men‘ reboot film, as confirmed by Jeff Sneider of The InSneider.
When Does Filming for the New ‘X-Men’ Movie Begin?
As previously reported, filming for the new ‘X-Men’ movie is set to begin in Q4 2025. According to Production Weekly, the plot is as follows: “Charles Xavier’s team of merry mutants is charged with the mission of protecting a world that hates and fears them for their unusual appearances and abilities.”
The film will be part of the MCU, with Professor X and Beast making cameos in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ and ‘The Marvels.’ Additionally, the upcoming ‘Deadpool & Wolverine‘ will see the return of characters from Fox’s X-Men universe. The plot revolves around the crossover of X-Men from the Fox universe into the MCU.
Recently, Rob Liefeld, the creator of Deadpool, said that the X-Men would appear in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ He mentioned being blown away by the cast list and teased an epic crossover between Deadpool and characters like Wolverine, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, and Beast. The film hits theaters on July 26, 2024.
Kevin Feige Discusses References to ‘Logan’ in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’
In an interview with Empire Online, Marvel President Kevin Feige said that there will be references to ‘Logan’ in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ but they will be “very reverential.” Feige advised against Hugh Jackman returning as Wolverine after ‘Logan,’ stating, “You had the greatest ending in history with Logan. That’s not something we should undo.” Initially rejecting Ryan Reynolds’ pitch for a Deadpool & Wolverine film to honor Logan’s ending after the Disney-Fox merger, Feige was later convinced in 2022 by Jackman’s interest in returning.
Back in 2023, during an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Feige was asked about what fans could expect from the X-Men in the MCU.
Feige replied, “It’s super exciting. But the X-Men are as solid, rich, and great a concept and characters as exist. There’s the return of the animated series [X-Men ’97’] next year, which we’re very excited about. I saw some new final episodes today, which really brought you back to the core of who the X-Men are and the soap opera that those characters represent. And then, in live action, people will see… perhaps, soon.”
The director has not yet been finalized. However, we can expect an announcement from Marvel soon, along with a first-look poster and the official title of the film. Currently, the release date for the untitled ‘X-Men’ film is to be announced (TBA).
The animated show ‘X-Men ’97’ is now available on Disney+.
