According to show creator Rick Riordan, Season 2 will use flashbacks to explore the history and backstories of the main characters in more depth. This will help viewers gain a deeper understanding of their pasts. Annabeth’s backstory, in particular, will delve into her relationships with Luke and Thalia, which were mentioned in the books but will be fully visualized through flashbacks.
In a recent interview with People, Riordan said Season 2 will “cut away and fill in some of the history of the characters and the backstory through a series of flashbacks to help readers understand the backstory of all the characters more deeply.’ He also teases that a fan-favorite character, Thalia Grace, will be introduced.”
Riordan continues, “The beauty of doing Sea of Monsters on the TV screen is that all those little stories that Annabeth tells us about her background with Luke and Thalia in the book aren’t just stories.” Riordan added, “You can see them happening in her flashbacks.”
Season 2 will be an adaptation of the second book in the series, The Sea of Monsters. A short teaser is expected to debut at Disney D23 Brazil.
