(Note: This post contains spoilers for Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.)
Robert Downey Jr.‘s Doctor Doom will reportedly be a one-and-done character in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, with no plans to keep him around longer.
In the Alex Perez 2025 Discord Q&A (via The Cosmic Circus), Alex said that Avengers: Doomsday will explain why Doctor Doom’s face looks like Tony Stark’s. Some characters, like Nick Fury, Samuel L. Jackson’s role in Doomsday, and Wakanda’s return, are confirmed. However, characters like The New Guardians and Wiccan are still up in the air.
How Will Tom Holland’s Peter Parker Handle the Loss He Experienced in Spider-Man: No Way Home in Avengers: Doomsday?
In Doomsday, the loss Tom Holland‘s Peter Parker had in Spider-Man: No Way Home will not be deeply explored. Instead, Spider-Man will be focused on his role; he will hide his emotions and focus on the threat, Doctor Doom. Parker’s life will be later addressed in Spider-Man 4.
The Void will be important in both Doomsday and Secret Wars. It’s one of the few safe places in the multiverse during the end, and it will have some main characters. Deadpool will play a big role in Doomsday and Secret Wars, acting as a champion of his universe and providing comic relief. He will also explore Anchor Beings.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to begin filming in late March 2025 in London, UK, and wrap by August 2025. The film will be directed by the Russo Brothers from a screenplay by Stephen McFeely.
In Avengers: Doomsday, Downey Jr. will play the role of Doctor Doom, Chris Evans as an Nomad, Holland as Spider-Man, Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing, Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Wonder Man, Dafne Keen as Laura Kinney/X-23 and Kelsey Grammer as Hank McCoy/Beast, and Channing Tatum as Gambit.
Avengers: Doomsday will be a multiverse film—because it’s the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga. The plot of Avengers: Doomsday follows Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, who isn’t truly evil; he believes he is trying to save the multiverse from incursions. In his twisted logic, the only way for the multiverse to survive is to unify all universes in one place—Battleworld—under his rule. He sees this as the sole path to ensuring survival for everyone.
Produced by Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, and Russo Brothers will produce through their AGBO banner.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released on May 1, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars will be released on May 7, 2027.
