The filming for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping has completely wrapped, with Maya Hawke’s final scenes filmed. She is playing the role of Wiress. The film hits theaters on November 20, 2026.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping will revisit the world of Panem 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games, beginning on the morning of the reaping for the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell.

The film is directed by Francis Lawrence from a screenplay by Billy Ray. Based on Suzanne Collins’ 2025 novel Sunrise on the Reaping, it serves as both a sequel to The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023) and a prequel to The Hunger Games (2012). It will be the sixth installment in The Hunger Games film series. “Taking place 24 years before the first film, the story follows a young Haymitch Abernathy (Joseph Zada), who is selected to compete in the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell, which occurs every 25 years. For this Quarter Quell, each district of Panem must send twice the number of tributes to the Capitol, who will fight to the death in the Hunger Games.”

Brad Simpson and Nina Jacobson return as producers for the film.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping will hit theaters on November 20, 2026 by Lionsgate.
