‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’ Has Officially Wrapped Filming

The filming for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping has completely wrapped, with Maya Hawke’s final scenes filmed. She is playing the role of Wiress. The film hits theaters on November 20, 2026.

Recently, Lionsgate released the first official trailer for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, which gives the first look at the movie. You can watch it below.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping will revisit the world of Panem 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games, beginning on the morning of the reaping for the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell.

The film is directed by Francis Lawrence from a screenplay by Billy Ray. Based on Suzanne Collins’ 2025 novel Sunrise on the Reaping, it serves as both a sequel to The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023) and a prequel to The Hunger Games (2012). It will be the sixth installment in The Hunger Games film series. “Taking place 24 years before the first film, the story follows a young Haymitch Abernathy (Joseph Zada), who is selected to compete in the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell, which occurs every 25 years. For this Quarter Quell, each district of Panem must send twice the number of tributes to the Capitol, who will fight to the death in the Hunger Games.”

The cast of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping includes Zada as Haymitch Abernathy, Mckenna Grace as Maysilee Donner, Ben Wang as Wyatt Callow, Molly McCann as Louella McCoy, Iona Bell as Lou Lou, Percy Daggs IV as Ampert Latier, Jhaleil Swaby as Panache Barker, Laura Marcus as Silka Sharp, Sky Frances as Maritte, Rada Rae as Wellie, Tatyana Muzondo as Ringina, Alina Reid as Kerna, Salimou Thiam as Clayton, John Doeble as Buck, and Kaine Buffonge as Hull, with Capitol residents portrayed by Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, Ralph Fiennes as President Coriolanus Snow, Glenn Close as Drusilla Sickle, Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman, Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket, Billy Porter as Magno Stift, Iris Apatow as Proserpina Trinket, Edvin Ryding as Vitus, Sandra Förster as Hersilia, and Jax Guerrero as Tibby, along with mentors Maya Hawke as Wiress, Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Beetee Latier, and Lili Taylor as Mags Flanagan.

Brad Simpson and Nina Jacobson return as producers for the film.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping will hit theaters on November 20, 2026 by Lionsgate.
