The film is directed by Jon M. Chu and written by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox. A sequel to Wicked (2024), it adapts the second act of the 2003 stage musical by Stephen Schwartz and Holzman, which is loosely based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel—a reimagining of L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and its 1939 film adaptation.
Here are the plot details:
The epic conclusion to the untold story of the witches of Oz begins. Elphaba, now demonized as the Wicked Witch of the West, lives in exile while continuing to fight for the truth. Glinda, celebrated as the symbol of Goodness, rules in Emerald City. When the angry citizens of Oz rise up against Elphaba, the two former friends are forced to reunite. To change their destinies—and the future of Oz—they must finally understand each other and come together for good.
The film stars Ariana Grande as Glinda the Good, with Scarlett Spears as young Glinda; Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West; Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, later transformed into the Scarecrow; Ethan Slater as Boq, later the Tin Man; Bowen Yang as Pfannee; Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible; Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard of Oz; Marissa Bode as Nessarose; and Colman Domingo as the voice of the Cowardly Lion.
Wicked: For Good was released in the United States on November 21, 2025.
