The filming for Tom Ford’s Cry to Heaven, starring Nicholas Hoult, Adele, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, has wrapped in Rome, Italy, as confirmed by the Italy for Movies database.
Filming began on January 19, 2026, and after a 10-week production shoot, it has wrapped and entered the post-production stage. The film is eyeing a world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival, scheduled for early September 2026.
The film is based on Cry to Heaven, the 1982 novel by Anne Rice, and is written, produced, and directed by Tom Ford. Rice’s Cry to Heaven is a sprawling historical drama set in the vibrant, baroque world of 18th-century Italy, where opera and politics intertwine.
In the image below, you can see the first look at Adele, who is set to make her acting debut in Cry to Heaven.

Cry to Heaven follows two central figures whose lives become tragically and powerfully bound by art, identity, betrayal, and ambition. Tonio Treschi, a young Venetian nobleman, becomes the victim of a dark familial betrayal when his half-brother orchestrates his castration to secure his inheritance. Cast out from his noble life, Tonio is forced into the world of the castrati — male singers who were surgically altered before puberty so their voices would retain a high, powerful soprano range into adulthood.
The film stars Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Adele, Ciarán Hinds, George MacKay, Mark Strong, Colin Firth, Paul Bettany, Owen Cooper, Daniel Quinn-Toye, Hunter Schafer, Josephine Thiesen, Thandiwe Newton, Théodore Pellerin, Daryl McCormack, Cassian Bilton, Hauk Hannemann, Lux Pascal, and Ian Cioce.
During filming, Josephine Thiesen was spotted on the set of Tom Ford’s Cry to Heaven. See the image below.

Cry to Heaven is expected to hit theaters in early 2027, no distribuers has bought the film yet, and the bidding will open after Venice premiere.
