The new promotional art of Robert Downey Jr.‘s Doctor Doom from Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday official merchandise has been revealed.
In the images below, you can see an Avengers backpack featuring Doctor Doom. It showcases officially licensed Marvel artwork highlighting the powerful character in a dark, high-impact, Doomsday-inspired design. The product is listed on Amazon.
We previously reported that Doctor Doom has at least three costumes in Avengers: Doomsday. One is the “softer”-looking mask you already saw in the mid-credits scene of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and another is the comic-accurate, harsher-looking version shown at the Disney event in Shanghai. The third has not yet been revealed.
Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom spends 90% of the movie with his face obscured by his mask, with the post-scarring “face reveal” happening in Act 3. Doom is allied with the Avengers until Act 3 of Avengers: Doomsday, when he removes his mask and turns sinister.
Doom’s scarred face is the result of an incident that killed his wife and child. Much like Darth Vader — a character Doctor Doom clearly influenced from a visual standpoint — the armor he wears is the very thing keeping him alive.
Directed by the Russo brothers from a screenplay by their longtime collaborator Stephen McFeely and Michael Waldron.
