The first look at Tom Cruise as Digger Rockwell in Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s Digger has been revealed in the new teaser trailer. The film follows the most powerful CEO in the world who is ordered to save the world from a catastrophe that he created.

Digger is directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, who co-wrote the film with Sabina Berman, Alexander Dinelaris Jr., and Nicolás Giacobone.

Synopsis: “The most powerful man in the world races to prove he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he unleashed destroys everything.”

The film also stars Sandra Hüller, Jesse Plemons, John Goodman as the President of the United States, Riz Ahmed as the President’s assistant, Michael Stuhlbarg, Sophie Wilde, Emma D’Arcy, Robert John Burke, Burn Gorman, Pip Torrens, and Mercedes Hernández as Digger’s housekeeper.
During CinemaCon 2026, Cruise said before introducing the new trailer, “It took 40 years for me to be able to put on the boots of Digger Rockwell.”
The trailer revealed an unrecognizable Cruise, complete with a beer belly, thinning white hair, a poorly combed-over hairstyle, and a Southern accent. Digger Rockwell is an oil baron whose company may be responsible for an ecological disaster that could become the first domino to fall, setting off a nuclear war. John Goodman plays the ailing U.S. President, who demands that Digger clean up his mess.
Iñárritu revealed at CinemaCon that Digger had been in development in his mind for almost ten years, with Tom Cruise involved in conversations about the project for the past seven years.
Iñárritu said, “Watching Tom Cruise become Digger Rockwell, I was not prepared for that.” He added, “Embodying this character is another kind of fearless… this role could be his most challenging high-wire act.”
Digger will be released in the United States by Warner Bros. Pictures on October 2, 2026.
