The first look at He-Man’s allies Fisto, Ram Man, and Trap Jaw from Travis Knight‘s Masters of the Universe has been revealed by Entertainment Weekly.
The images reveal Fisto, Ram Man, and Trap Jaw in Masters of the Universe. Johannes Haukur Johannesson‘s Fisto is one of Eternia’s most powerful defenders, Jon Xue Zhang‘s Ram Man is a heavily built warrior who attacks like a battering ram, and Sam C. Wilson‘s Trap Jaw is a cyborg villain serving Skeletor.

According to costume designer Richard Sale, Ram Man’s fighting style is all about blunt-force attacks, charging directly into enemies with his head down and arms lowered. To make the character more expressive on screen, the headpiece was built with movement in mind.
The visual effects department came in handy with Ram Man’s legs, “to give him his springing, traditional fighting stance of his legs elongated.”
But even they needed something to work from, so the textile team created a print with the look of copper wiring, paired with “foam legs that looked like spring coils.”

Fisto’s costume features a more traditional design made with leather and urethane armor pieces. However, his giant metal fist was fully built by the costume props department instead of being created with visual effects. According to Sale, the fist was carefully 3D-printed and designed like a complex piece of machinery.

Trap Jaw’s design was a huge technical challenge for the production team. His right arm featured interchangeable weapons created with VFX, while his leg armor had to be carefully designed to avoid restricting natural movement.
Actor Sam C. Wilson also had to be able to “run in them, jump in them, do his action scenes in them, and not fall down because of their weight.” Sale said one version was “quite heavy,” while another rubberized pair was created “for all the stunt work and fighting.”
Travis Knight directs Masters of the Universe from a script by Chris Butler, Aaron Nee, Adam Nee, and David Callaham. The movie adapts Mattel’s famous franchise and follows the 1987 live-action film.
After being separated for 15 years, the Sword of Power leads Prince Adam back to Eternia, where he discovers his home shattered under the fiendish rule of Skeletor. To save his family and his world, Adam must join forces with his closest allies, Teela and Man-At-Arms, and embrace his true destiny as He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe.
