Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has hyped fans by teasing that Avengers: Secret Wars will feature major character team-ups that they have wanted to see for years. Feige described these moments as “pinch-me moments” that Marvel fans have “always dreamed of” but have never seen realized on screen.
The film will bring together familiar Marvel characters from across the MCU and its wider multiverse. Feige also seemingly confirmed that Secret Wars will be a fan-service movie similar to Deadpool & Wolverine. In a recent interview, Feige confirmed that Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom will be a centerpiece of the story, calling him “the greatest villain in the history of the Marvel universe.”
“We will bring together the characters we know and love in pinch-me moments that we as fans have always dreamed of but have never seen realized. And we will call on Doctor Doom, the greatest villain in the history of the Marvel universe, to become a centerpiece of that story.”
Feige says Doctor Doom believes “he is the hero and he will save us all” in Avengers: Doomsday.

“That’s what is fascinating about him, and that’s what I’m excited about having Robert Downey Jr. play him and bring him into Doomsday.”
Kevin Feige Reveals How Avengers: Secret Wars Could Reshape the MCU
Feige addressed how Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribić’s 2015 Secret Wars reshaped the Marvel Universe after the multiverse was destroyed. The comic ended with the Marvel Multiverse being “rebuilt and retooled for the modern age.”
According to Feige, the story created something new while continuing from the previous Marvel Universe rather than completely starting over. The post-Secret Wars Marvel Universe then branched out in “all-new, all-different directions.” Feige has previously described the approach as a “reset” and a “singular timeline,” rather than a traditional reboot.
Feige said, “[Jonathan Hickman’s] intricate story, which developed across multiple series, and [Esad Ribić’s] bold, beautiful art hit some of the same notes as that earlier comic but remixed and reframed its event. It starts with a collision of worlds, and it ends in a Marvel Multiverse rebuilt and retooled for the modern age. They invented something new, seamlessly picking up where the old universe left off, but branching out in all-new, all-different directions.”
Feige added, “We do the same thing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We pick and choose from Marvel’s rich, nearly 90-year comics history and make movies that honor the source but become something entirely different. That cycle continues as we head toward the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s own version of Secret Wars. Like Loki gathering up branches of the timeline at the end of all things, we’ll pick up the threads of Hickman and Ribić’s run and all those who came before and weave a new story inspired by the vast tapestry of our comics and films.”
