The filmmaker revealed that the script for Tintin 2, the sequel to 2011’s The Adventures of Tintin, has been completed. Jackson confirmed that Tintin 2 will be his next film as a director.
“We have The Shadow of the Past, which is in the scriptwriting stage. The Hunt for Gollum is almost finished filming. I think there are about two weeks of shooting left. And we’ve also already written the script for Tintin 2, the second Tintin film. That will be the next film I make.”
Back in June, during a Zoom conversation with longtime collaborator Richard Taylor for a retrospective marking the 30th anniversary of his first Hollywood film, The Frighteners, Jackson revealed that his next directorial project would be Tintin 2.
Jackson said that he and Fran Walsh have completed the script for the sequel. The original plan was for Jackson to direct the second film while Spielberg served as its producer. Jackson believes that “it’s a timeless story. So we just wrapped up. So probably the next film that I’d actually direct is a Tintin movie.”
Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin hit theaters in 2011, with Peter Jackson and Kathleen Kennedy serving as co-producers. Based on Hergé’s Tintin comic book series, the film was written by Steven Moffat, Edgar Wright, and Joe Cornish. The film grossed $374 million worldwide on a $135 million budget and earned numerous awards and nominations, including a Golden Globe win for Best Animated Feature Film. It also received an Academy Award nomination for John Williams’ original score.
