Peter Claffey (HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms) has reportedly been cast as Hank McCoy, a.k.a. Beast, in Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men reboot, according to Knight Edge Media.
The role was previously being considered for Charles Melton, who dropped out of consideration for the role of Kakashi Hatake in the live-action Naruto movie. Melton reportedly tried to make both projects work by reuniting with director Jake Schreier for X-Men at D23, but scheduling conflicts prevented him from doing so.
The role of Beast has previously been played by Kelsey Grammer in X-Men: The Last Stand and Nicholas Hoult in the X-Men: First Class films. Grammer will reportedly reprise the character in Avengers: Doomsday.

As we previously reported, Beast will reportedly not undergo the mutation that transforms his skin into blue fur in the X-Men reboot. Instead, he will have a more beast-like appearance while retaining a human look, with huge hands and feet.
The updated cast of Marvel Studios’ X-Men reboot so far:
- Kit Connor as Cyclops
- Sadie Sink as Jean Grey
- Maya Boyd as Storm
- Inde Navarrette as Rogue
- Christopher Abbott as Professor X
- Adam Driver as Mr. Sinister
- Samara Weaving as Emma Frost
- Asa Germann as Angel
- Peter Claffey as Beast
Three other major characters are also set to appear in the movie: Kitty Pryde, Bobby Drake (Iceman), and Moira MacTaggert. Casting for all three characters has been completed, but the actors have yet to be announced.
Recently, Knight Edge Media reported that Renate Reinsve met with Marvel Studios for the role of Moira MacTaggert in the X-Men reboot.
Directed by Jake Schreier and written by Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo, the X-Men movie will focus on “the school, prejudice, and the interpersonal friction between a younger generation of mutants finding their identity in a world that fears them,” rather than jumping straight into world-ending threats.
Speaking to Good Morning America, Schreier says the X-Men movie will feature many elements that have never been explored on the big screen.
He has also been looking at different X-Men comic book storylines for inspiration, specifically mentioning Chris Claremont’s iconic run and Jonathan Hickman’s newer stories.
He said, “Digging back into those comics like the Chris Claremont run and the newer Jonathan Hickman stuff. There are so many stories that are still untold.”
The X-Men movie will hit theaters on May 5, 2028.
