The live-action adaptation of ‘How to Train Your Dragon‘ is scheduled to begin filming on June 30, 2023, in Los Angeles, CA, United States.
According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter (THR), the forthcoming live-action adaptation of ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ is being produced by Marc Platt Productions and will be distributed by Universal Pictures. Dean DeBlois, the director behind the ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ animated film series, is set to return as the director for this live-action venture.
Based on Cressida Cowell’s books, the ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ franchise follows the heartwarming bond between Hiccup, a young Viking boy, and Toothless, a wounded dragon he befriends and helps recover. The films beautifully explore themes of overcoming prejudice, dealing with loss, and experiencing first love. Notably, they depict the protagonists’ growth as they age, transforming the series into an authentic “coming-of-age” story.
There are three films in the animated series: “How to Train Your Dragon” (2010), “How to Train Your Dragon 2” (2014), and “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” (2019). The film series has been quite successful at the box office. From its three films, it grossed over $1.6 billion worldwide, making it one of the most successful animated film franchises of all time.
The live-action adaptation of ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ is slated to release in theaters on March 14, 2025.
