Michael Sarnoski Says How He Gets into Directing A Quiet Place: Day One
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Sarnoski says how he got into directing a film in the Quiet Place universe. Sarnoski said, “[John Krasinski] came to me and said, ‘Will you bring the Pig touch to the Quiet Place universe? What would that look like to you?” Sarnoski added, “[Both] are monster films, they’re horror-thriller movies that have these exciting, scary moments, but at their core, they’re stories about people dealing with something that they don’t know how to deal with. I wanted to focus on that but in its own unique way.”
According to the film’s plot, Sam (Nyong’o), who’s on a day trip to New York City when the monsters arrive, As everything quickly goes to hell, she’s thrown together with a man named Eric (Quinn). With some reluctance, the pair agree to navigate and survive the city together.
In an interview with EW, Quinn said, “It’s more of a [character] drama than anything.” Quinn added, “The script is obviously set in the world that we know, but it’s very much a film about these two characters who are lost and trying to negotiate their fates. There are also some wonderful other characters in the film who Sam encounters, but the bulk of it is Eric and Sam in their mutual acceptance of this bleak, more quiet, new reality.”
The film is produced by Paramount Pictures, Platinum Dunes, and Sunday Night Productions. Krasinski continues his involvement with the franchise as a producer, alongside Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller.
‘A Quiet Place: Day One’ hits theaters on June 28, 2024, by Paramount Pictures.
