The upcoming Amazon’s Spider-Noir series, starring Nicolas Cage, may get a black-and-white release alongside a color release, says cast member Lukas Haas. He says, “When we filmed it, the monitors were all black and white, so you got this feeling, and it looked very, very authentic.”
Speaking to ComingSoon, Haas shared that Amazon’s Spider-Noir might be released in both black-and-white and color. During filming, all monitors showed the footage in black and white, making it feel more authentic to the noir style. Haas revealed that Brendan Gleeson plays his character’s boss in Spider-Noir.

The series focuses on classic film noir elements, like deep shadows and a vintage look. Haas said the black-and-white visuals were so realistic that it felt like watching old film footage.
Haas said, “It was just an incredible project.” He added, “Everybody involved was amazing. Brendan Gleeson—he plays my boss. Just getting to do that noir thing. It was very genuine film noir, the way they filmed it, like the long shadows.”
Haas continued, “We filmed it in—I think it may come out in both black and white and color, but when we filmed it, the monitors were all black and white, so you got this feeling, and it looked very, very authentic. To the point that I would actually go and look at the monitor and think I was looking at some older footage, but it was actually just a monitor of what was on the camera at the time. They did a beautiful job with the filters and all that stuff, making it look like genuine old 1930s black-and-white film. But obviously, just the writing, and Nic is incredible. It’s just a really fun project, and I cannot wait to see how it turns out.”
During filming in Los Angeles, some leaked set images show the first look at Cage, who plays Ben Reilly/Spider-Noir in the show.
The show follows the story of Ben Reilly (Cage)—a private investigator—as he stumbles down a rabbit hole of corruption in 1933 New York City, while also uncovering his past as a superhero. Reilly investigates the death of Edward Addison, leading him to discover that the Mayor is involved in a nefarious plot with crime boss Silvermane and femme fatale Yuri Watanabe.
Oren Uziel (22 Jump Street) and Steve Lightfoot (The Punisher) helm Spider-Noir as co-showrunners and executive producers. The series also brings in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse creators Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal as executive producers. Harry Bradbeer will direct the first two episodes while also serving as an executive producer, with Amy Pascal producing through her company, Pascal Pictures.
The series also stars Lamorne Morris, Gleeson, Abraham Popoola, Li Jun Li, Whitney Rice, Karen Rodriguez, Jack Huston, Amanda Schull, Haas, Cameron Britton, Scoot MacArthur, Michael Kostroff, Joe Massingill, and Cary Christopher.
Produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, with Lord and Miller currently under an overall deal at Sony.
Spider-Noir will premiere on MGM+’s linear channel in the U.S. and then stream worldwide on Amazon Prime Video in 2025.
