An ‘American Pie’ reboot film is in development at Universal. The script will be penned by Sujata Day, who is known for her directional debut 2020 comedy-drama ‘Definition Please‘.
According to THR, The multihyphenate will be developed and write a new installment of the long-running sex comedy franchise for Universal 1440 Entertainment, a production arm of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group. The first film from the American Pie franchise was released in 1999. it becomes a worldwide pop culture phenomenon and gained a cult following among young people.
The ‘American Pie’ franchise grossed $989.5 million worldwide from a $147 million budget. Also, a spin-off film series entitled American Pie Presents consists of five direct-to-video films that were released from 2005 to 2020.
The original American Pie film’s plot follows, “A riotous and raunchy exploration of the most eagerly anticipated — and most humiliating — rite of adulthood, known as losing one’s virginity. In this hilarious lesson in life, love, and libido, a group of friends, fed up with their well-deserved reputations as sexual no-hitters, decide to take action.”
The plot details are unknown. The director, release date, and cast are yet to be announced.
