An ‘American Pie’ Reboot Film Is In Development at Universal

An ‘American Pie’ reboot film is in development at Universal. The script will be penned by Sujata Day, who is known for her directional debut 2020 comedy-drama ‘Definition Please‘.

According to THR, The multihyphenate will be developed and write a new installment of the long-running sex comedy franchise for Universal 1440 Entertainment, a production arm of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group. The first film from the American Pie franchise was released in 1999. it becomes a worldwide pop culture phenomenon and gained a cult following among young people.

The ‘American Pie’ franchise grossed $989.5 million worldwide from a $147 million budget. Also, a spin-off film series entitled American Pie Presents consists of five direct-to-video films that were released from 2005 to 2020.


The original American Pie film’s plot follows, “A riotous and raunchy exploration of the most eagerly anticipated — and most humiliating — rite of adulthood, known as losing one’s virginity. In this hilarious lesson in life, love and libido, a group of friends, fed up with their well-deserved reputations as sexual no-hitters, decide to take action.”
