Ana de Armas (Blonde), Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes), Alicia Vikander (Tomb Raider), and Daniel Brühl (All Quiet on the Western Front) will star in Ron Howard‘s survival thriller film, “Origin of the Species.”
The film is a darkly comic tale set in the Galapagos, where a group of characters chooses to leave civilization behind, leading to murder and a fight for survival. They are all searching for the answer to that ever-pressing question that plagues us all: “What is the meaning of life?”.
Directed by Ron Howard from a script penned by Noah Pink. The film is backed by Howard’s Imagine Entertainment, along with CAA Media Finance and Stuart Ford’s AGC Studios, which recently joined as the film’s financier and will handle sales at the upcoming Cannes market. The filming is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2023 in Queensland, Australia.
“Origin of the Species” is the latest highly anticipated package making waves at the Cannes market. Despite the ongoing strike, the market is presenting numerous opportunities for buyers. Projects with more advanced scripts or completed films showcased at the festival have become even more desirable due to delays caused by the strike.
However, the abundance of projects and their high budgets have raised concerns among some buyers regarding their theatrical potential. The streaming platforms are also not as aggressive as they were a couple of years ago. However, a star-studded film directed by Ron Howard is expected to have no trouble finding a suitable home.
