The Role of “Apex” in “Superman: Legacy”: A Powerful Iteration of Lex Luthor?
The upcoming film “Superman: Legacy” features an antagonistic character known as “Apex.” Director James Gunn has been considering black actors for this role. It looks like Apex could be an iteration of Lex Luthor, who possesses extraordinary strength to challenge Superman, potentially leading to a multiverse storyline.
In the DC comics, there exists a version called Apex Lex Luthor, who has a unique combination of human and Martian attributes, making him physically stronger than the usual portrayal of Lex Luthor.
As per The Wrap, in “Superman: Legacy,” an antagonist role is labeled “Apex,” and Gunn has been seeing black actors play the role.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nicholas Hoult is being considered for the role of Superman, not Lex Luthor, in James Gunn’s ‘Superman: Legacy.’ Emma Mackey, Rachel Brosnahan, Phoebe Dynevor, and Samara Weaving are reported to be in the running for the role of Lois Lane in the same film.
The film is written and directed by James Gunn, and he also produces with Peter Safran.
Superman: Legacy follows the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.
Superman: Legacy will hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
