Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World hits theaters this month, and Anthony Mackie, who plays Sam Wilson/Captain America, reveals how Brave New World connects to the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Mackie says that the events of Brave New World lead directly into Avengers: Doomsday and teases that Sam will reach his “finest point” and “finest hour” in Doomsday.
In Brave New World, Sam fights Red Hulk to save the world, which helps shape Sam’s role in the next big Avengers movie.
Mackie said, “So, by the time you get to Doomsday, you’ll have, Sam at his his finest point and his finest hour coming off of this battle of basically saving the world from Red Hulk.”
Mackie continued, “We see by the end of the movie (Captain America: Brave New World) that Sam has 100% definitively become Captain America. Like, there’s no question. After seeing this movie, his ability, his compassion, and just everything about his leadership… everything about him screams Captain America.”
During the press tour for Captain America: Brave New World, producer Nate Moore confirmed that Mackie’s Captain America will be leading the Avengers in Doomsday. He says Brave New World will show how Sam earns the title of Captain America in his own way and will help prepare him for an even bigger challenge in the next Avengers movie.
Moore said, “It’s no secret we’re starting to build to Avengers 5.” Moore added, “I think there’s never been an Avengers movie where there’s not a Captain America at the center of it, so this is about Sam Wilson showing the world that he is deserving of the mantle and why he’s both Captain America and not Steve Rogers. […] And I think he’s going to take the skills from this film and figure out how he can be helpful as the Avengers fight a new threat.”
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to begin filming in late March 2025 in London, UK, and wrap by August 2025. The film will be directed by the Russo Brothers from a screenplay by Stephen McFeely.
In Avengers: Doomsday, Robert Downey Jr. will play the role of Doctor Doom, Chris Evans as an Nomad, Tom Holland as Spider-Man, Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing, Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Wonder Man, Dafne Keen as Laura Kinney/X-23 and Kelsey Grammer as Hank McCoy/Beast, and Channing Tatum as Gambit.
Captain America: Brave New World will hit theaters on February 14, 2025, as part of Phase Five of the MCU.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released on May 1, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars will be released on May 7, 2027.
