‘Anyone but You’ Review: A Rom-Com Blending Laughter, Love, and a Touch of Shakespearean Charm
Bea (Sweeney) and Ben (Powell) look like the perfect couple, but after an amazing first date something happens that turns their fiery hot attraction ice cold - until they find themselves unexpectedly thrust together at a destination wedding in Australia.
The film delivers a blend of sexy humor and feel-good vibes that make it a perfect choice for a fun night out. Sweeney and Powell’s on-screen chemistry is undeniable, and their enjoyment is contagious. With just the right amount of cheesy charm, it’s an ideal pick for a memorable date night. Without a doubt, this is one of the best romantic comedies in recent years.
In a plot inspired by Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing,” the stars portray Ben and Bea, two former college friends who, upon receiving an invitation to a mutual friend’s wedding, find out that their respective exes will also be attending. In response, they decide to pretend to be a couple.
The film is based on Ilana Wolpert’s script, which Will Gluck is rewriting and directing. Produced by Joe Roth, Jeff Kirschenbaum, and Gluck (who, with his Olive Bridge Entertainment, has a first-look deal with Sony), Executive produced by Sweeney for Fifty-Fifty Films, Natalie Sellers, and Alyssa Altman for RK Films.
‘Anyone But You’ is set to hit theaters on December 22, 2023, by Sony Pictures.
