Warner Bros. Pictures has released the second trailer for ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.’ This sequel to the 1988 film, from the mastermind of Tim Burton and Michael Keaton, returns with the horrifying Betelgeuse. The story continues to follow the same family, still haunted by the Beetlejuice name. Watch the trailer below.
The trailer is not like the first one; it has revealed all the cast’s first looks, including Monica Bellucci returning as Betelgeuse’s wife and the first look at Willem Dafoe as Wolf Jackson.
The plot is as follows: “Beetlejuice is back after an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. They are still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s (Winona Ryder) life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid (Jenna Ortega), discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic, and the portal to the afterlife accidentally opened. With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.”
Directed by Burton from a screenplay by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (Wednesday), the story by Gough and Millar and Seth Grahame-Smith (The LEGO® Batman Movie) is based on characters created by Michael McDowell and Larry Wilson.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Burton says he actually started thinking about the ‘Beetlejuice’ sequel since the 1988 film. For that, he revisited the plan and the idea that people’s lives change.
Burton said, “I got interested in what happened to the Deetz family.”
In the film, Keaton returns to his iconic role alongside Oscar nominee Ryder (Stranger Things, Little Women) as Lydia Deetz and two-time Emmy winner Catherine O’Hara (Schitt’s Creek, The Nightmare Before Christmas) as Delia Deetz, with new cast members Justin Theroux (Star Wars: Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, The Leftovers), Bellucci (Spectre, The Matrix films), Arthur Conti (House of the Dragon) in his feature film debut, with Emmy nominee Ortega (Wednesday, Scream VI) as Lydia’s daughter, Astrid, and Oscar nominee Dafoe (Poor Things, At Eternity’s Gate).
Produced by Marc Toberoff, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Tommy Harper, and Burton, with Sara Desmond, Katterli Frauenfelder, Gough, Millar, Brad Pitt, Larry Wilson, Laurence Senelick, Pete Chiappetta, Andrew Lary, Anthony Tittanegro, Grahame-Smith, and David Katzenberg executive producing.
