Hayao Miyazaki‘s ‘The Boy and the Heron‘ has surpassed $104 million at the worldwide box office.
GKIDS released ‘The Boy and the Heron,’ making around $1.41 million on Friday from 2,325 locations. The total domestic (North America) gross is estimated at $19.38 million.
Recently, the Golden Globe Awards announced the nominees for Best Animated Picture at the 81st Golden Globe: ‘The Boy and the Heron,’ ‘Elemental,’ ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,’ ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie,’ ‘Suzume,’ and ‘Wish.’
Directed by Miyazaki and produced by Studio Ghibli, ‘The Boy and the Heron’ draws inspiration from the 1937 novel of the same name by Genzaburō Yoshino, as referenced in the Japanese title. However, the film features an entirely original story that is not directly connected to the novel.
‘The Boy and the Heron’ Plot:
Mahito, a young 12-year-old boy, struggles to settle in a new town after his mother’s death. However, when a talking heron informs Mahito that his mother is still alive, he enters an abandoned tower in search of her, which takes him to another world.
The English dub voice cast includes Luca Padovan as Mahito Maki, Robert Pattinson as The Grey Heron, Karen Fukuhara as Lady Himi, Gemma Chan as Natsuko, Christian Bale as Shoichi Maki, Mark Hamill as Granduncle, Florence Pugh as Kiriko, Willem Dafoe as Noble Pelican, Dave Bautista as The Parakeet King, Denise Pickering as Izumi (Maid #1), Barbara Rosenblat as Utako (Maid #2), Melora Harte as Eriko (Maid #3), Barbara Goodson as Aiko (Maid #4), and Karen Takizawa as Warawara.
‘The Boy and the Heron’ is now playing in theaters.
