The first look at Brad Pitt as Fred Scully has been spotted on the set of Edward Berger‘s The Riders while filming on the Greek island of Hydra, Greece.
In the film, Pitt plays Fred Scully, a devoted family man who purchases and renovates a farmhouse in Ireland while his wife, Jennifer, and their 7-year-old daughter, Billie, remain in their native Australia. For the production, Hydra’s harbor has been significantly transformed to suit the film’s setting.

Directed by Edward Berger, the film is based on Tim Winton’s 1994 novel and is produced by Brad Pitt under his production company, Plan B Entertainment.

The novel follows Fred Scully (Pitt), who, after traveling through Europe for two years, winds up in Ireland with his wife and daughter. And on a mystical whim of his wife Jennifer, they buy an old farmhouse that stands in the shadow of a castle. While Scully spends weeks alone renovating the old house, Jennifer returns to Australia to liquidate their assets. When Scully arrives at Shannon Airport to pick up Jennifer and their 7-year-old daughter, Billie, it is Billie who emerges — alone. There is no note, no explanation, not so much as a word from Jennifer, and the shock has left Billie speechless. In that instant, Scully’s life falls to pieces.
The film stars Brad Pitt as Fred Scully, Julianne Nicholson as Jennifer Scully, and Coco Greenstone as Billie Scully, alongside Michael Smiley, Danny Huston, Camille Cottin, and Ulrich Thomsen.
The Riders is set to hit theaters in 2026, by A24.
