Britney Spears‘ audition tape for ‘The Notebook‘ has been released by the Daily Mail, showing a never-before-seen emotional side of the singer as she reads scenes with Ryan Gosling. This video has surfaced 21 years after she narrowly missed the lead role.
Gosling and Rachel McAdams were adored for their roles as Noah and Allie in ‘The Notebook,’ creating the ultimate Hollywood romance.
However, an audition tape, kept secret for twenty years by Hollywood casting director Matthew Barry and shared exclusively with The Daily Mail, shows just how close 21-year-old Britney Spears came to securing the lead role. She delivered a remarkably emotional performance during her screen test with Gosling. Watch the footage below.
In an interview with People, Spears said, “The Notebook casting came down to me and Rachel McAdams, and even though it would have been fun to reconnect with Ryan Gosling, I’m glad I didn’t do it. If I had, instead of working on my album In the Zone I’d have been acting like a 1940s heiress day and night.”
