Sony Pictures Classics released the teaser trailer for ‘Carmen‘ starring Melissa Barrera and Paul Mescal. In the film, Carmen (Barrera) travels from the deserts of Mexico to Los Angeles in search of freedom. Watch the trailer below.
From Benjamin Millepied, The film is an adaptation of the opera of the same name and follows a “young and fiercely independent woman who is forced to flee her home in the Mexican desert following the brutal murder of her mother, another strong and mysterious woman.” Carmen survives a terrifying and dangerous illegal border crossing into the US, only to be confronted by a lawless volunteer border guard who cold-bloodedly murders two other immigrants in her group. When the border guard and his patrol partner, Aidan—a Marine with PTSD—become embroiled in a deadly standoff, Carmen and Aidan are forced to escape together.
The film stars Melissa Barrera as Carmen, Paul Mescal as Aidan, Rossy de Palma as Masilda, Elsa Pataky as Gabrielle, Kaan Guldur as Robertico, Nicole da Silva as Julieanne, Tara Morice as Marie, Richard Brancatisano as Pablo, Benedict Hardie as Mike, Pip Edwards as Nancy Ann, and Marina Tamayo as Zilah.
Carmen will hit theaters on 21 April 2023 by Sony Pictures Classics.
