Following the casting of Chris Evans in Avengers: Doomsday, it has now been confirmed who he will play next in the MCU. It’s not Captain America or Johnny Storm but Nomad, an alternate identity of the original Captain America, Steve Rogers.
On the latest podcast of The Hot Mic with Jeff Sneider and John Rocha, Sneider revealed that Evans is going to play Nomad in Doomsday.
Sneider said, “Nomad. Oh, he’s [Evans] coming back as Nomad. I have it here—the original Nomad is an alternate identity that Steve Rogers adopts after he abandons the Captain America costume and title, disillusioned with the government. Yes, that sounds like something that could happen after Brave New World. Yeah, and I’m told that he’s just going to be Nomad.”
Who is Nomad in Marvel Comics?
In Marvel Comics, Nomad is a name Steve Rogers uses after he stops being Captain America. He first appeared as Nomad in Captain America #180 (December 1974). Steve became Nomad in the 1970s after losing trust in the U.S. government because of corruption revealed in the Secret Empire story. As Nomad, he was a hero without ties to any country.
Nomad’s costume was very different and included a cape. It showed Steve’s decision to fight for his beliefs and values instead of blindly following any country or symbol.
In Avengers: Doomsday, Robert Downey Jr. will play the role of Doctor Doom, Evans as an Nomad, Tom Holland as Spider-Man, Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing, Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Wonder Man.
Filming for Avengers: Doomsday is set to begin in March 2025, with the Russo Brothers directing and Stephen McFeely writing the script. Unusually for Marvel, the Russo Brothers will also produce both films through their AGBO banner.
As reported, Avengers: Doomsday will be a multiverse film—because it’s the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga. The plot of Avengers: Doomsday follows Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, who isn’t truly evil; he believes he is trying to save the multiverse from incursions. In his twisted logic, the only way for the multiverse to survive is to unify all universes in one place—Battleworld—under his rule. He sees this as the sole path to ensuring survival for everyone.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released on May 1, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars will be released on May 7, 2027.
