The wait for the upcoming ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse‘ film might be much longer, and producer Chris Miller has stated there are no plans to use any kind of generative AI for the ‘Spider-Verse‘ films.
Recently, Sony’s CEO Tony Vinciquerra announced that they plan to use AI to produce films more efficiently. Vinciquerra said, “We’ll be looking at ways to use AI to produce films for theaters and television in more efficient ways, using AI primarily.”
Will Sony Pictures Use Generative AI for the ‘Spider-Verse’ Films? Chris Miller Responds
Following the announcement, fans are worried that Sony may use generative AI to create characters for the ‘Spider-Verse’ films. However, Miller responded to a comment on X, assuring fans that this technique will not be used in the ‘Spider-Verse’ series.
On X, @NitroSpidey asked, “Dear Sony Animation, Keep generative AI away from Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse. AI robs people of their jobs & produces nothing but slop. We don’t want that anywhere near this film or any film for that matter. Please keep it away from the filmmaking process. Thank you.”
In response, Miller replied, “There is no generative AI in Beyond the Spider-Verse and there never will be. One of the main goals of the films is to create new visual styles that have never been seen in a studio CG film, not steal the generic plagiarized average of other artists’ work.”
Is There Any Update on ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’ Release Date?
During an interview with Digital Spy for the release of “Strays,” writers/producers Phil Lord and Miller couldn’t give a specific release date for “Beyond the Spider-Verse.” However, they assured fans that it would be released “when it is ready.” Lord mentioned they are working on it diligently and will take the time needed to make it great.
Miller said, “What we’re trying to accomplish with the film is have it be the most satisfying conclusion to the story than it can be and take it to places that you haven’t been before. And make you laugh and cry, and cheer and think.“
‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ came out in theaters on June 2, 2023. It’s made $684.4 million worldwide, way more than its $100 million budget, and you can also watch it on streaming platforms now.
In March 2024, Sony Pictures Animation live-streamed ‘The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story‘ on YouTube in partnership with the Kevin Love Fund. You can watch it on YouTube.
