Daisy Edgar-Jones (Twisters, Where the Crawdads Sing) is in talks to star in Marc Webb‘s supernatural thriller Day Drinker alongside Johnny Depp (Pirates of the Caribbean, Sherlock Gnomes).
The news was reported by insider @MyTimeToShineH on X: “Daisy Edgar-Jones is in talks for the female lead in Day Drinker alongside Johnny Depp. Sydney Sweeney was previously rumored for the role, but it seems she is no longer involved.”
Webb (The Amazing Spider-Man, 500 Days of Summer) is set to direct from a screenplay by Zach Dean (The Tomorrow War, Fast X). Previously, Jeff Sneider of The InSneider reported that Sweeney would play the female lead, but the actress took to X to debunk the claims of her starring in a movie alongside Depp. She wrote, “I woke up to rumors anyway.”
Day Drinker is said to be about the bond between an enigmatic stranger (Depp) and a bartender — mourning the loss of her lover — (Edgar-Jones). It will explore themes of love, friendship, and revenge, set in the beautiful coastal regions of France, Portugal, and Spain.
The project is expected to have an official announcement soon regarding the producers, production companies, and the rest of the cast members.
Edgar-Jones is known for her role in Normal People (2020), which earned her nominations for a British Academy Television Award and a Golden Globe Award. She recently starred in the disaster film Twisters alongside Glen Powell, which made $369.7 million worldwide. She will next be seen in Daniel Minahan’s On Swift Horses, which had its world premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.
The release date for Day Drinker has not yet been revealed; however, the film is expected to begin filming by early 2025.
