Marvel’s ‘Echo‘ series will premiere on Disney+ with five episodes on January 10, 2023.
According to the show’s director and executive producer, Sydney Freeland, the fight scenes in ‘Echo’ draw inspiration from Netflix’s ‘Daredevil‘ series, focusing on realism and real-world consequences. The series doesn’t revolve around the fate of the universe but instead highlights down-to-earth stakes, which played a role in shaping the series’ overall tone. While it was a point of discussion, it wasn’t the exclusive reason for this approach.
Freeland said, “I dunno if I can say this, but I love the Netflix Daredevil; it’s great.” Freeland added, “And so we certainly took, obviously, the Daredevil fight; it was a little bit of a nod to that series… But then we also wanted very adamantly to show that these are people in our show. They bleed, they die, they get killed, and there are real-world consequences. And again, talking, it’s not the fate of the universe at stake because I think once you go that broad, you can sort of lose sight a little bit. And so that kind of dictated the tone a little bit. So I guess to answer your question, it was a conversation, but it wasn’t that reason.”
Marvel recently revealed the first trailer for ‘Echo,’ starring Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez. The ‘Echo’ series mainly focuses on Maya’s life, her family, and her history. Charlie Cox‘s Daredevil will have a cameo appearance, and Vincent D’Onofrio‘s Wilson Fisk has a big role. Disney+ confirmed that Echo follows the events of Hawkeye (2021) in New York City, Maya Lopez returns to her hometown, where she must come to terms with her past, reconnect with her Native American roots, and embrace her family and community.
The first episode will be directed by Freeland and the rest will be directed by Catriona McKenzie. Marion Dayre serves as the head writer. The show also stars D’Onofrio as Kingpin, Cox as Daredevil, Zahn McClarnon as William Lopez, Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Devery Jacobs, Cody Lightning, and Graham Greene.
Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Stephen Broussard, and Richie Palmer, along with Dayre and Jason Gavin, are the executive producers, while Freeland serves as a co-executive producer. The series is also produced by 20th Television.
