MCU’s Doctor Strange star Benedict Cumberbatch has given an exciting update on the upcoming Marvel‘s ‘Avengers 5‘. He has confirmed that he will reprise his role as Doctor Strange, with filming scheduled to begin next year.
Benedict Cumberbatch Will Return as Doctor Strange in Avengers 5
In a recent interview with Still Watching Netflix on YouTube, Cumberbatch confirmed that ‘Avengers 5’ filming will begin next year and that he is “very much looking forward” to returning.
Cumberbatch said, “He’s a gift in my life in many ways as a producer, as an actor. I’m very much looking forward to Avengers which is cooking up a storm.”
The film was first titled ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,’ but following the termination of Jonathan Majors, who played Kang the Conqueror, Marvel has retitled the film as ‘Avengers 5,’ with the script penned by Michael Waldron.
Currently, Marvel is actively looking for a director, and some of the top choices are being considered. Shawn Levy is also on the list.
I have already confirmed that ‘Avengers 5’ will be Marvel’s largest production to date, with more than 60 MCU characters reprising their roles. This includes Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, and Karen Gillan as Nebula. Unlike the first four films, which had a core group consisting of Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Hemsworth, and Ruffalo, many of the characters in this film will have equal footing, making it more of an ensemble feature rather than being led by a handful of characters.
‘Avengers 5’ will stand alone as an epic, unlike the originally planned two-part event following ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’. Also, ‘Secret Wars’ will be split into two films, similar to ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Endgame’.
The film follows the events of previous movies such as ‘The Avengers’, ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, ‘Avengers: Endgame’, ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’, and the second season of ‘Loki’. This film is the 42nd in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and belongs to Phase Six.
‘Avengers 5’ will hit theaters on May 1, 2026.
