The first plot details for Godzilla Minus Zero have been leaked online. The story follows Godzilla’s return as a new threat rises, forcing Kōichi Shikishima (Ryunosuke Kamiki) to fight again as Noriko’s (Minami Hamabe) link to the monster puts her in danger.
On X, user Kaiju No. 14 has shared the plot details for Godzilla Minus Zero:
Following the devastation of Godzilla’s first rampage in Godzilla Minus One, Kōichi Shikishima is determined to lead a quiet life, rebuilding his family with Noriko and young Akiko while stepping away from the nightmares of war and monsters.
However, peace is short-lived when Godzilla returns—fully regenerated, larger, and more ferocious—while something ancient begins to stir beneath Aokigahara near Mount Fuji, endangering the fragile nation and forcing Kōichi to reconsider his promise.
With the stakes higher than ever, Kōichi reluctantly returns to the fight, teaming up with old comrades and U.S.–Japan alliance forces to confront the two kaiju and protect those he loves—especially as Noriko’s cellular connection to Godzilla strengthens, pulling her dangerously closer to the monster’s rage.

From writer-director Takashi Yamazaki, who also supervises the visual effects, Godzilla Minus Zero continues the story of Godzilla Minus One (2023). The film stands as the 39th installment in the Godzilla franchise, Toho’s 34th entry, and the sixth chapter of the Reiwa era.
Godzilla Minus One grossed $56 million in North America, making it the highest-grossing Japanese-language live-action film ever. It also became the first Godzilla film nominated for an Oscar and the first Japanese film to win for Visual Effects.
Last year, in an interview with Variety, Yamazaki said that Godzilla Minus One was made for $15 million and that the budget for the sequel would likely be larger. He also reflected on the use of AI in filmmaking, saying, “Until recently, I’ve still been shooting on film, and I like to use miniatures. So I know that someday we’re going to have to embrace and kind of work with AI, but I’m probably going to be one of the later ones because I do like working with older technology and techniques.”
Godzilla Minus Zero is scheduled for release on November 3, 2026, in Japan, and November 6, 2026, in the United States.
