Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Rocks the Global Box Office with $282 Million Opening Weekend
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 grossed $282 million at its worldwide box office opening weekend, despite uncertainty in Asian markets. The film earned $28.1 million in China and $13.6 million in Korea, and the international box office totaled $168.1 million across 52 markets. It was reported by our source that on Friday, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 grossed $119 million, and the film also made $48.2 million in the United States (including $17 million in previews).
Overseas, the film had a 70% increase over the first film and was on par with the second film on a like-for-like basis. Excluding China, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s opening weekend was 98% higher than the first film and 13% higher than the second.

As per Deadline, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 outperformed its predecessor in several markets, including Italy, Spain, Australia, Japan, Korea, Brazil, and Mexico. The film had the highest social scores of any MCU release in China. The top five markets for the film’s opening weekend were China ($28.1 million), the UK ($14.7 million), Korea ($13.6 million), Mexico ($13 million), and France ($8.2 million). In IMAX, the movie grossed $25 million from 1,550 screens in 82 markets, making it the biggest worldwide score for the format in 2023 and the third-highest for Marvel since Avengers: Endgame. Overseas markets contributed $14.3 million to the IMAX gross.
