First Look at Giganto in Marvel’s ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Revealed

The first look at Giganto, the Fantastic Four’s first villain in the comics, has been revealed in a brand-new Little Caesars ad for Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

The teaser shows Giganto recreating the iconic cover of their first comic issue from 1961 in live action. In the scene, Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) and Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby) arrive on the battlefield in the Fantasticar to fight Giganto, while Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn) uses his fire powers. Who is Giganto in Marvel Comics?

In Marvel Comics, Giganto is a giant sea monster who first appeared in Fantastic Four #1 (1961), created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Giganto is a Deviant Mutate with immense strength and size and is known as the Fantastic Four’s first major villain. There is also Mole Man’s Giganto, a separate monster used by Mole Man, which resembles a giant humanoid reptile.

In a recent interview with Collider, director Matt Shakman revealed that 1960s culture was key to The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Shakman said, “The comics were created in the ‘60s, and they’re very much informed by the space race and that JFK sense of optimism. It really defined that decade—looking to the stars—and you see it not just in the Fantastic Four, but you see it in Star Trek, which is another project that’s all about family, optimism, and the belief that the right head and the right heart in combination can solve any problem.” Shakman added, “You see it in Spock and Kirk, you see it in Sue and Reed, and so these are some of the similar themes we’re dealing with.”

Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm / Invisible Woman (Kirby), Johnny Storm / Human Torch (Quinn), and Ben Grimm / The Thing (Moss-Bachrach) as they face their most daunting challenge yet. Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet — and everyone on it — weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.

The film also stars Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, Natasha Lyonne, and Sarah Niles. Directed by Shakman, produced by Kevin Feige, and executive produced by Louis D’Esposito, Grant Curtis, and Tim Lewis.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theaters and IMAX on July 25, 2025.
