The first look has been revealed for King of Kings, starring Oscar Isaac as Jesus Christ. The faith-based animated movie is loosely based on The Life of Our Lord, a posthumously published short story by Charles Dickens that focuses on the life and times of Jesus Christ.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Blue Harbor Entertainment has acquired the North American rights to King of Kings, with plans to release it in theaters over the Easter holiday. An exact release date is expected soon. See the first-look image below.
Directed by Seong-ho “Jay” Jang from the South Korea-based animation house Mofac Animation, the film was co-written by Jang and Rob Edwards (The Princess and the Frog).
Jang notes that Blue Harbor “proved to understand the intrinsic value of this film and its faith-based engagement opportunities, and offered a creative, filmmaker-friendly business model that would provide significant outreach to families, animation fans, and the awaiting embrace of hundreds of millions of Christians across the nation.”
The film’s voice cast includes Kenneth Branagh as Charles Dickens, with Isaac voicing Jesus. Additional voice stars include Ben Kingsley, Forest Whitaker, Uma Thurman, Mark Hamill, Pierce Brosnan, and Roman Griffin Davis.

“It centers on a multi-dimensional adventure Dickens goes on with his son, Walter. Along the way, the master storyteller engages his youngest son’s vivid imagination with the fascinating life of Jesus, his well-known trials and tribulations, and his notable colleagues and foes.”
Anfernee Kim (Last Knights) serves as the producer, while voice and casting director Jamie Thomason (Spirited Away) and veteran filmmaking executive Andrew Mann (Gold) are the executive producers.
