The sequel to ‘Freaky Friday‘ has been greenlit after 20 years.

‘Freaky Friday 2’ is officially in the works at Disney, with Nisha Ganatra set to direct. Filming is scheduled to begin this summer in Los Angeles.

What is the Plot of ‘Freaky Friday 2’?

In ‘Freaky Friday 2,’ Anna (Lohan) and Tessa (Lee Curtis) swap bodies with two teenage girls, Anna’s 14-year-old daughter Harper and Anna’s British restauranteur fiance’s daughter Lily. (Via EW)

Lee Curtis already hinted that making a ‘Freaky Friday’ sequel with Lindsay is committed to variety during the premiere of ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’.

Curtis said, “We’re talking. People are talking. The right people are talking… We (she and Lohan) are both committed to it. It’s not ours to make—iit’s Disney’s to make, and I think they’re interested. And we are talking.”

Produced by Andrew Gunn, who produced the 2003 movie, the sequel is also produced by former Disney executive Kristin Burr. Ann Marie Sanderlin is executive producing.

‘Freaky Friday’ was a fantasy-comedy film released in 2003. The film is based on Rodgers’ 1972 novel of the same name. The film follows a single mother Tess Coleman (Lee Curtis) and her teenage daughter Anna (Lohan) couldn’t be more different, and it is driving them both insane. After receiving cryptic fortunes at a Chinese restaurant, the two wake up and realize their bodies swapped. Unable to switch back, they are forced to masquerade as one another until a solution can be found. In the process, they develop a new sense of respect and understanding for one another. The film grossed $160.8 million worldwide with a $26 million budget.

It’s not sure whether the movie will be released in theaters or on Disney+, and the release date is currently TBA (to be announced).
