‘Frozen 3‘ and ‘Frozen 4‘ are in development as two parts of one big story.
Jennifer Lee, Chief Creative Officer of Disney Animation, talks about the surprise announcements of ‘Frozen 3’ and ‘Frozen 4.’ After the huge success of the first film in 2013 and its record-breaking sequel in 2019, ‘Frozen 3’ was confirmed earlier this year. Recently, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that ‘Frozen 4’ is also in development.
‘Frozen 3’ and ‘Frozen 4’ to be Filmed Back-to-Back
Speaking to The Walt Disney Company, Lee revealed that ‘Frozen 3’ and ‘Frozen 4’ are in development as two parts of one big story.
Lee said, “We are deeply excited about the story we are shaping together, and it’s so epic it may not fit into just one film.”
In a recent interview with GamesRadar, Lee doesn’t spill the story details but suggests a broad narrative influenced the choice to make two additional films instead of one.
Lee said, “We’re really excited about where they’re going, and we just have a lot of story to tell with that direction we’re going in.” Lee added, “So, I think, in my head, there may be enough for two in that story. But I’m really, really loving working with the team and where they’re going.”
The franchise has achieved remarkable success, with the first film released in 2013 grossing over $1.2 billion worldwide, and its 2019 sequel, ‘Frozen II,’ surpassing that with a global box office of over $1.45 billion.
In ‘Frozen 3,’ Kristen Bell portrays Anna, Idina Menzel as Elsa, Josh Gad as Olaf, and Jonathan Groff as Kristoff. Produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures, it serves as a sequel to Frozen II and is the third installment of the Frozen franchise.
The release date for ‘Frozen 3’ has not been announced.
