Stoick the Vast, leader of Berk and father to Hiccup in ‘How to Train Your Dragon,’ had a complex relationship with his son due to Hiccup’s different approach to Viking life, causing Stoick to leave Berk in search of the dragon nest; nevertheless, Stoick maintains hope that Hiccup will eventually become the strongest Viking.

The filming began on June 30, 2023, in Los Angeles, CA, United States, and was halted due to the strikes, then again resumed production in November 2023. Recently, the cast for the live-action adaptation was announced, with Mason Thames and Nico Parker confirmed to play the film’s main leads, taking on the roles of Hiccup and Astrid.

In a Viking village called Berk, the young outsider Hiccup befriends a dragon named Toothless instead of killing it. He learns about dragons and their misunderstood nature, gaining support from his friends and father. Together, they defeat a colossal dragon called the Red Death, leading to a new era of harmony between Vikings and dragons.

Dean DeBlois, the director of the animated series, will also direct this live-action film. It’s produced by Marc Platt Productions and distributed by Universal Pictures, with DeBlois writing the script.

Recently, Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation rescheduled the film’s release from March 14, 2025, to June 13, 2025.
