The filming for Gina Prince-Bythewood’s Children of Blood and Bone, the adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling novel, has begun.
On Instagram, Adeyemi confirmed the filming update, writing, “And… action, Children of Blood and Bone.” Check out the post below.

The film stars Thuso Mbedu, Viola Davis, Amandla Stenberg, Damson Idris, Tosin Cole, Regina King, Cynthia Erivo, Idris Elba, Lashana Lynch, Bukky Bakray, Diaana Babnicova, and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
In the film, Mbedu plays Zelie—a young woman from a fantasy African kingdom on a mission to reclaim the magic stolen from her people by the ruthless King Saran. The plot follows Zelie and her older brother Tzain (Cole) as they team up with the king’s daughter, Princess Amari (Stenberg), and son, Prince Inan (Idris), to fight against King Saran’s brutal rule.
Directed by Prince-Bythewood from a screenplay co-written with Adeyemi, Children of Blood and Bone has become a smash hit since its publication in 2018. The novel, along with its two sequels—Children of Virtue and Vengeance and Children of Anguish and Anarchy (collectively known as the Legacy of Orïsha trilogy)—spent a combined total of 175 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list. In total, the series has sold almost three million copies worldwide and garnered critical acclaim. Children of Blood and Bone has been featured as a Top 100 Fantasy Book of All Time, a New York Times Notable Children’s Book, and a Kirkus Prize Finalist, among other accolades.
The film will be produced by Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen of Temple Hill Entertainment, along with Karen Rosenfelt of Sunswept Entertainment—the same team behind the Twilight series. Matt Jackson of Jackson Pictures will also produce the film, while Adeyemi and Reggie Rock Bythewood will serve as executive producers.
Children of Blood and Bone will hit theaters on January 15, 2027, from Paramount Pictures.
