Greta Gerwig's The Chronicles of Narnia Filming Date Officially Confirmed

The filming date for Greta Gerwig‘s The Chronicles of Narnia adaptation has been confirmed.

According to Production List, the untitled Chronicles of Narnia Netflix project will reportedly begin filming in New Zealand on January 31, 2025.

Recently, we reported that Saoirse Ronan (The Outrun, Foe) was rumored to have joined the cast of Greta Gerwig’s The Chronicles of Narnia film. However, Ronan debunked these reports during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Ronan said, “There isn’t like no truth to [the rumors].” Ronan added, ” She hasn’t asked me, yet. She’s writing it. We have that kind of relationship where I just sort of go to her and I say, ‘So I’ll be in this, just so you know.’ And she takes some time to think about it and then goes, ‘Okay.’ But she honestly asked me about Narnia, I think she’s so kind of wrapped up in writing it right now.”

Gerwig will direct from a screenplay written by Matthew Aldrich and C. S. Lewis.

In a recent interview with BBC Radio 4’s Today program (via Deadline), Gerwig revealed that she feels intimidated by her next project, the Chronicles of Narnia adaptation for Netflix: “I’m slightly in the place of terror because I really do have such reverence for Narnia.” she added, “I loved Narnia so much as a child. As an adult, C.S. Lewis is a thinker and a writer. I’m intimidated by doing this. It’s something that feels like a worthy thing to be intimidated by.”

Netflix already had a multi-year deal with The C.S. Lewis Company, signed in October 2018. The deal aims to develop new series and film projects based on the widely acclaimed book series. In collaboration with Entertainment One, Netflix will bring stories from the vast Narnia universe to life through both series and films.

In a statement, Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer of Netflix, said, “C.S. Lewis’ beloved Chronicles of Narnia stories have resonated with generations of readers around the world.” Sarandos added, “Families have fallen in love with characters like Aslan and the entire world of Narnia, and we’re thrilled to be their home for years to come.”

The film will be produced by Aldrich, Mark Gordon, Douglas Gresham, and Vincent Sieber.

The release date for Gerwig’s Narnia movie is not available yet.
