Robert Downey Jr. convinced Chris Evans to be Captain America, saying it would help his acting career. Marvel Studios offered Evans a six-movie deal to entice him further.
Chris Evans’ Path to Captain America: Robert Downey Jr.’s Advice and Marvel’s Offer
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Evans revealed that Robert Downey Jr. called him and advised him to accept the role, explaining that the fame it would bring would open doors for his acting career. Marvel Studios then reduced his commitment to just six movies, including a Captain America trilogy and three Avengers films. Despite his initial concerns about a long-term commitment, Evans ultimately decided to take the part.
Marvel announced the casting in 2010, but Evans had years of self-doubt. While filming his first Captain America movie, he feared it was a career mistake. He worried about making bad movies, but his anxiety eased when he saw the films were good. He said, “The biggest thing I was worried about was making shitty fuc**** movies.” He added, “I don’t want to make shitty movies and be contractually obligated to make garbage.”
Evans’ last appearance as Captain America was in 2019’s ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ and there have been no updates about his return to the role since then.
