Mason Thames and Nico Parker to Lead ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ Live-Action Adaptation
The cast for the ‘How to Train Your Dragon‘ live-action adaptation has been announced. According to THR, Mason Thames and Nico Parker have been cast as the film’s main leads, Hiccup and Astrid. The filming has begun on June 30, 2023, in Los Angeles, CA, United States.
Dean DeBlois, the director behind the ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ animated film series, is set to return as the director for this live-action. The film is produced by Marc Platt Productions and will be distributed by Universal Pictures. DeBlois penned the script.
What Is The Plot Of ‘How to Train Your Dragon’?
In a Viking village called Berk, the young outsider Hiccup befriends a dragon named Toothless instead of killing it. He learns about dragons and their misunderstood nature, gaining support from his friends and father. Together, they defeat a colossal dragon called the Red Death, leading to a new era of harmony between Vikings and dragons.
There are three films in the animated series: “How to Train Your Dragon” (2010), “How to Train Your Dragon 2” (2014), and “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” (2019). The film series has been quite successful at the box office. From its three films, it grossed over $1.6 billion worldwide, making it one of the most successful animated film franchises of all time.
Mason Thames recently starred in Universal’s horror film ‘The Black Phone’ and Nico Parker appeared in the first episode of HBO’s ‘The Last of Us‘.
The live-action adaptation of ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ is slated to release in theaters on March 14, 2025.
