Sony Pictures made an announcement in a video on YouTube, where Chan and Macchio launched a global casting search for a new Karate Kid. The initiative invites young actors to submit audition tapes to KarateKidCasting.com.

Li, a proficient fighter and student in Beijing, faces a major change when his mother decides to move to Brooklyn due to a work opportunity.
